Final Review

We are in the final review of the book and things are getting exciting!
As I mentioned before, there will be an introductory text by Olaf Briese, a cultural studies scholar here in Berlin.  And there is more good news: there will be a second text by Diane Lewis, Architect and Professor at the Cooper Union. Her teachings have been a huge inspiration for this work. Together, these two outside texts really support the drawn content of the book, and I'm so happy to bring it all together.
I also love the new layout that Archive Books has been making. Here are some preview pages:

I'll update  soon with the progress and schedule!

The book is a bit late…. but there's a new layout and new photo documentation.

In the past few weeks there have been some great developments to the book. First, my publisher Archive Kabinett is laying out the book again to be a bit more clean and graphically appealing. It is looking great and I hope to have a few sample pages to show off soon! Second, Archive asked me to do a small photo-documentation which will be added to the end of the book to round out the research and give readers some visuals of Berlin to connect to the drawings and the text. So for the past two weekends I've been riding my bike around berlin, tripod and camera in hand, and grabbing some key pictures. It's been a fun little whirlwind, and I think it's a nice bonus for the book. Here's one of the pictures: it is a fragment of the berlin tax wall that has been incorporated into a building by Kleihues in Hannoversche Straße.

As I mentioned in the last blog post, the Kickstarter funding has given me the awesome chance to work with Archive Kabinett as a publisher. However, this meant that the estimated delivery has had to be pushed back by a month. The goal is to print the last week of November so that I can still put all the rewards in the mail in December. We are well on our way, however there are of course some risks/challenges with working together with more people to truly do things in a timely manner - I am trying my best to get the best possible book out as soon as possible.

Archive will publish the book

Archive books will be publishing Berlin: A Morphology of Walls. Archive is a platform devoted to research and reflection on artistic, social, and political practices. They have been making some great publications and have their headquarters, reading room, and store here in Berlin ...and their books can be found all over the world. Check them out here: http://www.archivekabinett.org

We have set our printing deadline for the last week of November. The book will be out in December for the project backers and available in Berlin. It will be distributed internationally in 2014. I know that working with Archive will mean that the book will be better than I could have made it alone.

Introduction by Olaf Briese

I have some exciting news - Olaf Briese has agreed to write an introduction for the book!

He is a scholar of cultural studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin. He published a book in 2011 called Steinzeit: Mauern in Berlin. For German readers, this is an excellent book with parallel themes about walls in Berlin. And it's beautifully written - Olaf is coming from a philosophy and literature background. I am thrilled that he'll write a text for my book!

In the meantime check out his book (on Amazon): Steinzeit
